VALUATION OFFICE TO STAY IN NEWPORT

The Valuation Office Agency has announced today that they have reversed the decision to relocate their office in Newport to Cardiff. The decision came after a consultation process where the staff, along with Jessica Morden MP, conveyed their concerns over the proposed move. Jessica said "I am delighted with the announcement that the Valuation Office Agency has decided not to relocate the office in Newport to Cardiff. It is great news for the staff and I am pleased for them and wish to thank them and everyone for their efforts in convincing the Valuation Office Agency to maintain a presence in Newport - including those who signed the recent petition."
Although this is great news for Newport, the Valuation Office has stated that they will be moving from Clarence House to the Tax Office (Her Majestys Revenues and Customs) near Clarence Place. The MP expressed her hope that there would be a rethink about the proposed move by tax office staff "Given the HMRC are going to be relocated to Cardiff, I do think there is a strong argument now for HMRC to stay. I have long argued that both the HMRC office and Valuation office, in keeping with both agencies need to cut costs, should co-locate in Newport. I will be asking Jane Kennedy MP, Financial Secretary for the Treasury, why the Treasury can't take a holistic view and co-locate offices. This makes perfect sense to me and the staff to both to save costs and to continue to offer first class service to the people of Newport
