John Griffiths is continuing to fight against the decision to relocate the Tax Office out of Newport. HMRC services’ February announcement which recommended the Tax Office in Newport to relocate to Llanishen in Cardiff in February was described as a ‘shameful decision’ by the AM for Newport East. However, a similar announcement to relocate the Valuation Office to Llanishen was overturned last month.
John Griffiths said: “It is imperative that Newport retains both these services which should be available locally to users in the area. I’d like to see the treasury looking creatively about how we could co-locate services now that both are located in the Crown Building. Newport is currently witnessing great economic, cultural and social advances. It is important to retain these jobs to ensure Newport continues to be a thriving city of opportunity for all.”
